Simply Created
Consulting can't give you a firm answer about the cost of
building your site until having visited with you and assessed
your needs. Basically, total cost will depend on how many pages
you would like included in your web site and how complex the
pages are to construct. Each web site, as is each client, is
unique and reflects its own personality. We will do a careful
assessment of your site requirements. One of the first expenses
will be for your "domain name" registration, which is required
by law. You should also expect to have monthly "web host
server" costs. The host server is the computer where your web
site will be stored and accessed by visitors.
Domain Name
Registration
This is your
site's
name
(web address)
on the World Wide Web. (www.yourcompanyname.com)
…or you might also choose from .org, .net or others that are
available.
Your "domain name"
must be registered---something
that can be done through several online (via internet sites)
registries. Costs vary, but are noticeably affordable. Domain
names can be registered for 1, 2-5 years or more. You can
register the name yourself or Simply Created Consulting can
assist you; note that when registering your domain name you will
have to provide specific information about your web host
server.
Web Host
Server
Once construction
has begun on your site, at some point, it will need to be
installed into the "world wide web." But first, a rental
contract will have to be established with an
Internet
Service Provider.
Again, this
is the location
(the computer) where your web site will be stored and accessed
by visitors.
Simply Created
Consulting can assist you in contacting a reliable server
provider.
Web Site
Construction Costs
Consulting / site
development is billed in one of, or a combination of, the
following ways:
1)
at a
pre-negotiated price per page
2)
a predetermined hourly rate
3)
an
agreed upon amount for a complete web site. Again, costs very
upon the complexity of the development of you’re site's pages
and take into consideration verbiage creation, research, and
editing, photography, photo or illustration revisions, page
layout, link bar creation, etc. Before building your site, we
will discuss its development and our proposed cost with you.
NOTE,
that client requested minor
changes or deviation from
original, agreed upon site plans are expected to occur
during site construction as new ideas and unforeseen needs
unfold.
HOWEVER,
radical alterations,
modifications due to a client's
"change of mind"
that effect the
entire site, majority of the site or several involved pages
of the site that have already been or are nearly completed,
will be assessed additional,
forewarned, explained and agreed upon hourly charges (or agreed
upon set amount). For example,
changes/modifications to the design
layout, link bars, page headers, logos, etc., applicable to many
or all pages would be considered
radical alterations.
Understandably, this includes many hours of
unpredicted "revision" work.
Additional
services including the creation of
logos, web site
copy (verbiage), editing client provided copy (drafts), and
information/photography research
will be taken into
consideration and either billed separately as an hourly cost
or included in the negotiated price. Not-for-profit
clients can be provided reduced rates, depending on the scope of
the project, as Simply Created Consulting's way of contributing
to their endeavor. To learn more about logo and other graphic
creation visit our Desk Top Publishing pages, or click here:

NOTE:
If
you have a second party register your domain name
make sure you understand ALL the details of how they
will proceed with that transaction. It is VERY
important that your personal name and/or business
name be listed as the "owner" or "applicant" on the
application. Too often, the second party that
registers the name lists their name (not
yours!) in the "owner/applicant" location. When
this happens,
they
retain
control
of the
domain name and can charge you for just about
anything related to the domain name such as:
renewal, switching to different server computers,
changing info, etc. Second party's also often "over
charge," in Simply Created Consulting's opinion,
when handling this procedure. Get prices up front.
When assisting clients with registering domain
names,
Simply
Created Consulting will ALWAYS list clients as the
owner,
and will provide username and password to access the
registry site immediately upon the completion of
the process. Simply Created Consulting most
often utilizes the services of
www.dotster.com
This company has proven to be fair, while providing
good customer service. Currently, a two-year
domain registration with Dotster costs
approximately $30.

NOTE:
You will discover that server costs (generally
paid monthly) vary between companies that
provide this service. If you are taking care of
securing a company that provides this
service...shop around and ask questions. Be
wary of second party providers who offer to
register your domain name and provide server
space, as well. Though there are many reputable
companies, some are not. These companies will
take advantage of your lack of knowledge and you
could find yourself being over charged for the
amount of server space you need.
Simply Created Consulting websites can be
associated with most all server providers.
However, if you have not yet secured a provider,
We can recommend companies who have proven to be
reliable and fair to their customers. Simply
Created Consulting often recommends
www.kcnet.com;
and in north central Kansas
www.NCKCN.com
(where available).

Updating /
Maintenance of Your Site
From time to
time, it might be important to you, even on a monthly basis,
to have your site's existing pages updated with new
information. Posting new and information images will keep
your site fresh for visitors and will tempt them to browse
by more often. This can be done several ways including a
news bulletin board, promotion of monthly or seasonal
specials, and other venues. For maintenance, you might
decide to change the look of your page by changing colors,
adding new graphics or photographs, or eliminating some
items.
In some
instances, you might later discover a need for additional
pages. They can be added at a slightly reduced rate.
Prototype
Design
A prototype of
a potential web site might be in order for the following
reasons:
1)
A client is uncertain about their need for a web site and
would like to investigate the visual impact their business
has on the web.
2)
A client might want an option of selecting from more than
one design scheme.
3)
A complex, multi-page site requires much time to design and
develop… identifying acceptable details as well as
unacceptable details can save everyone time and money.
